Chinese President Xi Jinping used a meeting with major American business leaders to signal that China is prepared to expand access for foreign companies. The comments came during a visit linked to U.S. President Donald Trump, where several top CEOs joined discussions in Beijing.
Xi emphasized that American companies have played a major role in China’s economic development and said that cooperation has benefited both sides. He added that China’s market will “open wider” and encouraged deeper business engagement going forward.
State media reported that Xi welcomed stronger collaboration and said U.S. firms would find “broader prospects” in China. He also noted that China values long-term partnerships with international companies as it continues its economic reforms.
Executives including Elon Musk (Tesla and SpaceX), Tim Cook (Apple), and Jensen Huang (Nvidia) were present at the meeting. Trump reportedly introduced the CEOs individually to Xi during the visit, highlighting the importance of business ties in the broader diplomatic engagement.
According to Chinese reports, the executives expressed strong interest in expanding their operations in China and strengthening partnerships. The White House also said both sides discussed improving market access for American companies and increasing Chinese investment into the U.S.
The visit comes as technology competition between the two countries intensifies, especially in artificial intelligence and semiconductors. The U.S. has restricted some advanced chip exports to China, while China is investing heavily in its own domestic tech industry to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.
Recent reports suggested the U.S. may allow limited Nvidia chip sales to China, though officials have not confirmed any final decision. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described the meeting as highly significant but avoided commenting directly on export matters, instead noting the positive tone of discussions between both governments.
