Grammy-nominated music producer Tay Keith has died at the age of 29. Authorities confirmed that the acclaimed hitmaker, born Brytavious Lakeith Chambers, was found on Thursday afternoon inside his apartment in Nashville, Tennessee.
According to a statement from the Metro Nashville Police Department, officers discovered Chambers while carrying out a routine welfare check at his home. Officials have stated that there is currently no evidence of foul play, and the exact cause of death has not yet been determined as autopsy results are still pending.
Born on September 20, 1996, in Memphis, Tennessee, Tay Keith first began producing music as a teenager. He started by creating beats from home and uploading them online, gradually building attention through platforms like YouTube as he refined his sound.
His breakthrough came in 2018, when he collaborated with rapper BlocBoy JB on a series of successful tracks, including “Rover,” “Shoot,” and the Drake-featured hit “Look Alive.” These releases helped him gain widespread recognition in the hip-hop industry almost overnight.
Later that same year, Keith cemented his reputation as one of the most influential producers of his generation. He contributed to several major records, including Drake’s “Nonstop,” Eminem’s “Not Alike,” and Travis Scott’s global hit “Sicko Mode,” which went on to become one of the most streamed songs of its era.
His work on “Sicko Mode” earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song, marking a major milestone in his rapidly rising career. From that point, he became a go-to producer for some of the biggest names in music.
Keith continued to expand his catalog with high-profile collaborations across the industry. He worked with Beyoncé on “Before I Let Go” from her Homecoming: The Live Album, contributed to Lil Nas X’s “Holiday” in 2020, and later produced DJ Khaled’s 2021 track “I Did It,” which featured multiple major artists.
Over the years, Tay Keith built a reputation for crafting high-energy, chart-topping records that shaped modern hip-hop and pop sounds. His sudden passing marks the loss of one of the most influential young producers of his generation.
