X has introduced a new History tab that reorganizes how users save and revisit content on the platform. The update turns the app into a more centralized space for storing posts, videos, and articles that users interact with over time.
The feature is currently available on iOS and is part of an effort led by X’s head of product, Nikita Bier. It replaces the old Bookmarks section in the app’s side menu, renaming it “History” and expanding its function beyond just saved posts.

Inside the new section, content is divided into four categories: Bookmarks, Likes, Videos, and Articles. Bookmarks and Likes remain user-saved actions, while Videos and Articles are automatically organized based on what users watch or read on the platform. The entire History section is private to each user.
The design makes X feel closer to a browsing experience, where users can return to anything they’ve previously viewed, even if they did not explicitly save it. It also brings together tools that were previously scattered across different parts of the app, improving navigation and content discovery.
The change also supports X’s growing focus on longer-form content, especially articles. The platform has been encouraging creators and publishers to share more detailed posts, positioning itself as a space for both quick updates and in-depth reading.
At a broader level, the update reflects how platforms are adapting to shifts in online traffic patterns. With fewer referrals coming from traditional search engines and social media feeds, X is trying to keep users engaged directly inside its ecosystem by making it easier to store and return to content.
