Spotify has introduced a new feature called User Notes, giving listeners a more personal way to enjoy their music. The update allows users to add custom notes to individual songs in their playlists, making it possible to record memories, emotions, or the reasons why a particular track is special to them.

With User Notes, playlists become more than just collections of songs. Listeners can now turn them into personal journals that capture important moments in their lives. For example, someone can write that they first heard a song while walking through the streets of Paris during a vacation, or note that a particular track reminds them of a first date, a graduation, a family gathering, or another unforgettable experience.

Spotify says the feature is part of its ongoing effort to make music streaming more personal by helping users preserve the stories connected to the songs they love.

Over time, these notes paint a picture of the music listeners love and the moments that shaped it. User Notes transforms playlists from a collection of songs into a more personal space for music discovery, bringing together personalization and added context around the music that listeners love.

The company believes that many listeners form emotional connections with music, and User Notes gives them a dedicated space to save those memories instead of relying solely on playlist titles or descriptions.

Using the feature is simple. Users can open a playlist they created, or one that contains songs they personally added, tap the three-dot menu beside any track, and choose "Add note." They can then type a personal message and save it. Once added, the note becomes visible to anyone who has permission to view that playlist, with the creator's name linking back to their Spotify profile.

The feature is currently available to users aged 16 and older on both Free and Premium accounts in select countries, with Spotify expected to expand availability over time.

The launch also helps Spotify stand out from competing streaming services such as Apple Music and YouTube Music. While those platforms focus on music discovery and recommendations, Spotify is adding a journaling-style experience that lets listeners document the personal stories behind their favorite tracks, something that is not currently offered by its biggest rivals.

User Notes was not the only announcement from Spotify. The company also unveiled a new Running Mode, designed specifically for fitness enthusiasts. The feature automatically selects songs based on different stages of a workout, matching a runner's pace, preferred music style, and workout type to create a more personalized exercise experience.

Together, the two new features reflect Spotify's broader strategy of making the platform more interactive and personal, giving users more ways to connect with the music they listen to every day while creating experiences that go beyond simple streaming.
