Threads is testing a new Meta AI feature that allows users to interact with artificial intelligence directly inside conversations on the platform.
The feature works similarly to Grok on X, where users can tag the AI to ask questions or get more information about trending topics, news stories, sports, fashion, and other discussions happening in real time.
Users with public accounts can mention Meta AI in a post or reply to ask questions such as why a topic is trending, what people are talking about, or how a sports team is performing. The AI then responds publicly through the @meta.ai account in the same language used in the original post.
The feature is currently being tested in countries including Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Argentina, and Singapore. Meta says the goal is to help users get quick context and recommendations without leaving the app. By adding AI directly into conversations, Threads is trying to become a place where users can both discuss and understand trending events in one space.
The system closely resembles how people use Grok on X, where users often ask the chatbot to explain viral content or confirm whether information is real. However, AI integrations like this can also create risks. X previously faced criticism after Grok generated controversial responses online.
Meta says its AI system includes stronger safeguards, though the company is still monitoring how the feature performs during testing. Users who do not want to see Meta AI replies can mute the @meta.ai account, mark AI responses as “Not interested,” or hide replies directly from their posts.
Meta says it will continue improving the feature based on user feedback before expanding it to more regions.
