Spotify is introducing a new feature that will reward loyal listeners with special access to concert tickets before they become widely available. The company announced that select users identified as an artist’s “top fans” will receive exclusive opportunities to buy tickets for upcoming tours. The move is part of Spotify’s growing effort to strengthen fan engagement and keep users spending more time on the platform.

According to Spotify, the company will determine who qualifies as a top fan using several activity signals. These include how often users stream an artist’s music, share songs, save albums, interact with content, and engage with the artist on the platform.

Spotify did not reveal the exact requirements needed to qualify, but it emphasized that the system will actively monitor suspicious activity to prevent people from using bots, fake streams, or AI tools to manipulate their fan status. The company explained that the goal is to make sure real fans get access to tickets instead of resellers and scalpers who often buy large numbers of seats and resell them at inflated prices.

Eligible users in the United States who are at least 18 years old will receive an email and in-app notification if they are selected. Fans will then get access to a special ticket-buying window lasting around 24 hours. Each selected fan will be allowed to purchase up to two tickets for participating shows. Spotify says users can choose any available concert date, city, or seat section from the artist’s tour, depending on ticket availability.

The company clarified that Spotify itself will not directly sell the tickets. Instead, the platform will work with ticketing partners, meaning fans will complete their purchases through external ticket-selling websites. The feature is expected to begin rolling out this summer with selected artists and newly announced tours. Spotify also said it plans to gradually expand the program to include tours of different sizes and more artists over time.

The launch reflects Spotify’s increasing focus on live events and fan experiences beyond music streaming. Over the past few years, the platform has introduced several concert-related tools, including notifications for nearby events, venue-following features, and playlists connected to local shows.

Spotify previously experimented with selling tickets directly through its own platform back in 2022, but later shifted toward a partnership model instead. The company says it has already helped facilitate more than $1.5 billion worth of ticket sales for artists globally.

The new “top fan” system could also encourage users to stream more music in hopes of earning access to exclusive ticket opportunities. Industry observers believe the feature may become a major competitive advantage as music platforms look for new ways to increase user loyalty and engagement.

At the same time, the announcement is likely to spark debate about how fan loyalty should be measured. Some users may question whether streaming numbers alone should determine who gets access to tickets, especially for highly competitive tours with limited seats.

Still, Spotify believes the system can help artists reward their most dedicated listeners while making it harder for ticket scalpers to dominate major concert sales.
