Spotify has announced that it will support Apple’s HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) video technology, a system recently introduced by Apple to improve how video podcasts are delivered. The update is designed to make it easier for creators to share their content across platforms, including Apple Podcasts, without needing to change their existing setup.

With HLS technology, video podcasts will automatically adjust their quality depending on the user’s internet connection. This means viewers will experience smoother playback, fewer interruptions, and less buffering whether they are using Wi-Fi or mobile data.

Spotify says it will roll out these improvements later this year while also introducing new monetization options for creators, including direct sales tools and partner integrations.

The company is also expanding distribution options for podcast creators using platforms like Libsyn, Podigee, Audioboom, Audiomeans, and Podspace. These creators can now publish video podcasts directly on Spotify and earn revenue through the Spotify Partner Program, a feature that is already live.

Spotify has been steadily increasing its focus on video content since launching video podcasts in 2020. The platform has since expanded monetization opportunities and reduced barriers for creators to earn from video content.

According to Spotify, nearly 500,000 shows and over 390 million users have engaged with video podcasts on the platform as of November 2025, highlighting the growing demand for visual podcast experiences.
