Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing from May 19 to 20, according to announcements from both Moscow and Beijing.

The meeting comes just days after Xi’s recent summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, making it the second major international meeting for the Chinese leader within a week.

Russia said the visit marks the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation between the two countries, an agreement that has helped shape modern relations between Moscow and Beijing.

According to the Kremlin, Putin and Xi are expected to discuss ways to strengthen their long-term strategic partnership and expand cooperation between Russia and China across multiple sectors.

The talks will also cover key international and regional issues, as both countries continue to play major roles in global politics and trade.

Energy is expected to be one of the main topics during the summit. Russia remains one of the world’s largest oil producers, while China is one of the biggest buyers of fossil fuels, making energy cooperation an important part of their relationship.

China’s Foreign Ministry also confirmed the upcoming meeting, signaling continued close ties between the two nations amid changing global alliances and ongoing geopolitical tensions.
