Meta is rolling out a major upgrade to its video editing app, Edits, adding a new AI assistant and preparing a desktop version of the platform. The announcements were previewed at a creator-focused event in Los Angeles, where the company showcased several upcoming tools designed to help content creators work faster and more efficiently.

Edits was originally launched as a mobile-first editing app meant to compete with ByteDance’s CapCut. With these new updates, Meta is clearly aiming to strengthen its position in the creator economy by giving users more powerful tools for both content creation and performance analysis.

The upcoming AI assistant is one of the biggest additions. It will help creators understand how their content is performing by analyzing Instagram data such as views, watch time, and audience retention. Based on this information, it can suggest new video ideas, recommend trending audio, and explain what type of content is performing best for a creator’s audience.

Meta says the goal is to reduce the need for external tools by building creative support directly into the app. Instead of relying on third-party AI services for brainstorming or analytics, creators will be able to get real-time suggestions inside Edits itself. This also aligns with Meta’s broader strategy of keeping creators within its ecosystem across Instagram and Facebook.

Alongside this, Meta is developing a desktop version of Edits. This will allow creators to work on larger screens, giving them more precision and control when editing videos. The desktop experience will also sync with mobile workflows, meaning users can start a project on their phone and continue editing on a computer without losing progress.

The desktop expansion is also a direct response to competitors like CapCut, which already offers a full desktop editing experience. Meta hopes this will make Edits more attractive for professional creators and advanced workflows that require more detailed editing tools.

In addition to future updates, Meta is also rolling out several features immediately. A new “Beta” tab will give users early access to experimental tools and allow them to send feedback directly to the company. This is part of Meta’s effort to speed up product development based on real creator input.

Creators will also gain access to improved analytics, including deeper audience insights such as demographic breakdowns and peak engagement times. These features build on existing data tools that already track video performance, follower growth, and viewer drop-off points.

Another new feature allows users to search for specific topics within the Inspiration feed. This helps creators discover trending reels, templates, and ideas based on what others in their niche are producing. Users will also be able to create multiple versions of a video to test which performs better before posting.

Meta says Edits content is already performing strongly on Instagram, with videos made in the app seeing higher save and share rates compared to non-Edits content. The app itself remains free on iOS and Android, while the AI assistant is currently in testing and the desktop version is expected to launch soon.
