Meta is expanding its artificial intelligence features on Facebook with a new update designed to change how users search, create content, and interact with the platform. The rollout, announced on Monday, is part of the company’s wider effort to compete more aggressively in the AI space while boosting user engagement across its apps.

The biggest addition is AI Mode, a new search experience powered by Meta AI. Instead of manually scrolling through posts or search results, users can now type questions in natural language and receive a summarized answer. These responses are generated from public content across Facebook, including Groups, Reels, and posts where people are actively discussing topics.

This shift effectively turns Facebook into a conversational search engine, where everyday user discussions become the foundation for answers. Meta says the goal is to make information discovery faster and more intuitive, especially when users are looking for opinions, recommendations, or trending discussions.

However, the approach also raises concerns about accuracy. Since AI Mode pulls from public posts rather than verified or editorial sources, there is a risk that outdated, misleading, or unverified information could be included in the responses. Similar concerns have already been raised about other AI search tools that summarize user-generated content.

Alongside AI Mode, Meta is also expanding its broader AI ecosystem on Facebook. A related experiment called Forum, a Reddit-style app introduced quietly last month, also includes an “Ask” tab that works in a similar way by pulling answers from community discussions across Facebook Groups.

Beyond search, Facebook is introducing new AI-powered creative tools. These include editing features that allow users to create collage-style videos with transitions, as well as photo presets that can automatically change a user’s appearance, including clothing, hairstyles, and accessories.

For example, sports fans can digitally try on jerseys through the “AI Edit” option in Stories, or update their profile pictures using features like “Restyle profile picture” and “Wardrobe,” which apply AI-generated outfit changes.

Meta has been steadily increasing its AI integration across Facebook over the past several months. Earlier updates included animated profile pictures that add motion effects like waving or celebratory accessories, and an AI tool for Facebook Marketplace that automatically responds to buyer messages for sellers.

More recently, the company introduced an AI assistant for creators that analyzes audience engagement, suggests posting times, and summarizes comments to help improve performance. This tool is part of Meta’s broader push to keep creators active and engaged on its platforms.

Taken together, these updates show Meta’s larger strategy of embedding AI into nearly every part of Facebook. The company aims to make the platform more useful, more interactive, and more personalized, while also opening new opportunities for monetization through subscription plans.

Meta has already begun rolling out paid subscription options across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp starting at $3.99 per month, with additional AI-powered premium features expected to be introduced in the future.
