Meta has officially expanded its wearable technology lineup with the launch of a brand-new range of smart glasses called Meta Glasses. Starting at $299, the new devices are designed to make smart eyewear more affordable while offering many of the AI-powered features that have helped drive interest in Meta's wearable products.

The glasses are being developed in partnership with eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica, the same company behind Meta's successful Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses. However, unlike those products, the new models do not carry any outside branding and are being marketed entirely under Meta's own name.

The launch marks another major step in Meta's long-term push into wearable technology, an industry that is becoming increasingly competitive as companies race to build the next generation of personal devices. According to market research from Counterpoint Research, Meta and EssilorLuxottica currently dominate the smart glasses market, controlling more than 80% of global market share.

Although the new Meta Glasses do not include built-in displays, they come equipped with a camera, open-ear speakers, microphones, and direct access to Meta AI. Users can activate the assistant through a dedicated button on the frame or customize the button to launch other features.

Meta says the glasses are designed to function as a hands-free personal assistant. The built-in AI can answer questions, provide recommendations, help users manage everyday tasks, and even understand what the wearer is looking at through the onboard camera system. This allows the glasses to deliver contextual information and assistance in real time.

Battery life is another area where Meta is aiming to stand out. The company claims the glasses can provide more than eight hours of use on a single charge. A portable charging case included with the device extends total battery life to as much as 40 hours, making the glasses suitable for all-day use and travel.

The initial lineup includes several frame designs targeting different audiences. The "Meta Adventurer" features a classic rectangular design and will be offered in both standard and large sizes. The "Meta Fury" adopts a more angular look inspired by popular men's eyewear styles. Meanwhile, the company is also introducing the "Meta Glasses by Kylie," a slimmer oval-shaped frame developed in collaboration with model and entrepreneur Kylie Jenner.

Meta is also continuing to expand the software capabilities of its wearable platform. The company announced that a pedestrian navigation feature will be arriving soon, allowing users to receive turn-by-turn walking directions directly through the glasses. The live translation system is also receiving a major upgrade, with support for 14 additional languages including Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, and Korean.

The launch comes at a crucial time for the smart glasses industry. Just last week, Snap introduced its long-awaited Specs smart glasses with a significantly higher starting price of $2,195. By comparison, Meta's $299 entry point could make advanced smart eyewear accessible to a much larger group of consumers.

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into everyday devices, Meta appears determined to position smart glasses as one of the most important ways people interact with AI. With affordable pricing, multiple design options, expanded language support, navigation features, and a growing AI ecosystem, the company is betting that smart glasses could become a mainstream technology product rather than a niche gadget.
