Meta is significantly expanding its subscription strategy, rolling out paid plans across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp while also beginning early tests of new AI-focused, creator, and business subscription models. The move marks a major push by the company to diversify revenue beyond advertising and build a more structured paid ecosystem across its apps.
On Wednesday, the social media giant confirmed that its consumer subscription plans are now rolling out globally. These are branded as “Plus” plans and are designed for everyday users who want extra features beyond the standard free experience. At the same time, Meta is also beginning tests for additional subscription products aimed at businesses, content creators, and users of Meta AI.
For general users, the new pricing is set at $3.99 per month for Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus, while WhatsApp Plus costs $2.99 per month. Each subscription unlocks a different set of enhancements depending on the platform, but all are centered around customization, engagement tools, and expanded control over user experience.
Meta’s head of product, Naomi Gleit, said the company plans to continue improving the offering over time, adding that more features will be introduced in the future to make the subscriptions more engaging and useful.
Instagram Plus includes a wide range of upgrades designed especially for active users and creators. These features include detailed story analytics such as seeing how many people rewatched a Story in total, the ability to create unlimited audience lists beyond the traditional Close Friends option, and tools that allow users to spotlight a Story once per week for greater visibility. Subscribers can also extend Stories beyond the normal 24-hour limit, preview Stories without appearing in viewer lists, search through Story viewers to identify who is engaging with their content, and even post directly to their profile or highlights without appearing in followers’ feeds.
In addition, Instagram Plus introduces Super Heart animated reactions for Stories, custom app icons, personalized fonts for profile bios, and the ability to add extra pinned posts to a profile. These tools are aimed at helping creators better understand their audience while also giving heavy users more control over how they present themselves on the platform.
Facebook Plus offers a similar feature set to Instagram Plus, focusing on social expression, profile customization, and engagement tools that improve how users interact with content and communities on the platform.
WhatsApp Plus, however, takes a different direction by focusing on messaging customization and personalization. It includes features such as custom app themes, personalized ringtones, additional pinned chats, improved list customization options, premium sticker packs, and other enhancements that allow users to personalize their messaging experience more deeply.
Meta also confirmed that these new “Plus” plans do not replace its existing Meta Verified subscription. Meta Verified will continue to exist separately, focusing on identity verification, protection against impersonation, and additional account support features. The company noted that while this separation remains in place for now, it could evolve in the future depending on how users respond to the new subscription structure.
Alongside the consumer rollout, Meta is introducing a broader experimental system for future subscriptions under the umbrella name “Meta One.” This will serve as a centralized platform for new paid offerings across AI, creators, and businesses.
Within Meta One, the company will begin testing AI-focused subscription tiers for Meta AI users. Two plans are planned for testing: Meta One Plus, priced at $7.99 per month, and Meta One Premium, priced at $19.99 per month. Both plans include access to Meta AI tools, but the Premium tier is designed for heavier usage, allowing users to run more complex and higher-compute queries.
This means Premium users will be able to access deeper reasoning capabilities for difficult tasks, similar to expanded “thinking mode” features in AI systems. It also includes expanded access to image generation and video generation tools across Meta’s apps. Meta has confirmed that Meta AI will remain free for casual users, with paid tiers aimed at those who require more advanced performance and higher usage capacity.
The company also said that these AI plans will eventually expand to include additional benefits tied to Meta’s smart glasses ecosystem. Testing for the AI subscriptions will begin next month in select countries, including Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia.
In addition to AI plans, Meta is also preparing two subscription tiers for creators and businesses. These will begin testing later this week in select regions including Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand, and Bangladesh.
The first plan, Meta One Essential, is priced at $14.99 per month and includes benefits such as a verified badge, protection from impersonation, and an enhanced “linksheet” feature. This linksheet allows users to connect multiple online profiles and web pages in one place, similar to a centralized digital identity hub across Meta platforms.
The second plan, Meta One Advanced, is priced at $49.99 per month and builds on the Essential tier. It includes stronger visibility tools such as boosted placement in Facebook feeds, higher ranking in Facebook and Instagram search results, a more prominent “Follow” button on Reels, and automated follow invitations for users who engage with content.
It also includes tools designed to help creators and businesses drive traffic to external websites or online stores through links in Instagram posts, Reels, and expanded profile linksheets. In addition, Advanced users will get more detailed analytics, including competitive insights on Instagram and custom audience tracking on Facebook.
Other features in the Advanced tier include optimized content scheduling tools, the ability to share account access with moderators without sharing passwords, and notification systems that alert users when their content is reused by others so they can request proper credit on reposted Reels.
Meta’s Naomi Gleit said the company is still experimenting with these AI and professional subscription offerings, but the long-term goal is to unify them under the Meta One system. From there, Meta plans to continuously expand and refine the features based on user feedback and platform performance.
