Porsche brought a piece of racing history back to life at Laguna Seca by unveiling a special Apple-inspired livery on its factory race cars during the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The colorful design paid tribute to the classic rainbow Apple Computer logo that appeared on a Porsche race car in the 1980s. It was created to celebrate two major milestones: 75 years of Porsche Motorsport and Apple’s 50th anniversary.

The original Apple-themed Porsche was raced in 1980 by Dick Barbour Racing, including at the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans. Now, decades later, Porsche revived that iconic look on its modern Porsche 963 hybrid race cars.

Laguna Seca was chosen for the tribute because the California racetrack is located close to Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino. The circuit is also one of Porsche’s most important racing venues in North America and regularly hosts Porsche events.

Porsche Penske Motorsport entered two Porsche 963 cars in the race. The No. 6 car was driven by Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor, while the No. 7 car featured Julien Andlauer and Felipe Nasr behind the wheel.

By combining a classic 1980s design with modern hybrid racing technology, Porsche and Apple delivered a tribute that celebrated innovation, motorsport history, and two brands that have shaped their industries for decades.
