A rare 2005 Porsche Carrera GT with a custom Ferrari-inspired Rosso Fuoco red finish is set to be one of the standout attractions at the upcoming Mecum Monterey auction. The iconic supercar, which has covered just 3,471 miles, combines Porsche's legendary engineering with one of Ferrari's most recognizable paint colors, making it one of the most unique Carrera GTs ever offered for sale.
Originally delivered in GT Silver, the car underwent an extensive restoration and repaint that transformed its appearance. Instead of simply repainting the exterior, specialists completely stripped the vehicle down to its bare carbon fiber chassis before applying the new finish. The work was carried out by Karosserie in Wayne, Pennsylvania, using modern triple-layer paint technology to achieve the deep metallic Rosso Fuoco shade, which is traditionally associated with Ferrari.
The project was commissioned by well-known Ferrari collector Milton Verret, who wanted to blend Ferrari's signature color with one of Porsche's greatest performance cars. While combining elements from two legendary automotive brands can sometimes divide opinion, the finished result has been praised for complementing the Carrera GT's sharp body lines and aggressive styling.
The transformation wasn't limited to the exterior. Although the inside of the car has largely remained original, it has been carefully preserved in excellent condition. The cabin still features its black leather interior, lightweight carbon fiber gear knob, and the minimalist design that made the Carrera GT famous. In addition, the factory hydraulic rear spoiler system has been upgraded with a newly engineered electric setup to improve long-term reliability while maintaining the car's original appearance.
Mechanically, the Carrera GT remains unchanged, preserving everything that has made it one of the world's most celebrated analogue supercars. Power comes from its original 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine, an engine with roots in Formula 1 development, producing 603 horsepower and 435 lb-ft of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and Porsche's signature ceramic twin-disc clutch, delivering the engaging driving experience that enthusiasts continue to admire.
The supercar also retains its advanced performance hardware, including carbon ceramic disc brakes with six-piston alloy brake calipers, providing exceptional stopping power. With fewer than 3,500 miles driven since new, the car remains remarkably well preserved and is expected to appeal to collectors looking for an investment-grade example that can still be enjoyed on the road.
The vehicle will cross the auction block as Lot S74 during the Mecum Monterey sale on August 15, 2026. Its arrival comes at a time when prices for the Porsche Carrera GT continue to climb as collectors seek rare, low-mileage examples of the manual V10 supercar.
Most Carrera GTs left the factory in more traditional colors such as silver, making this Ferrari-inspired Rosso Fuoco example particularly distinctive. The growing demand for rare specifications and custom-finished collector cars has pushed prices steadily higher in recent years.
Standard low-mileage Porsche Carrera GT models regularly sell for between $2 million and $3.5 million, while exceptionally rare examples with unusual specifications or unique paint finishes have surpassed $6 million at recent auctions. Given its one-of-a-kind appearance, meticulous restoration, and extremely low mileage, this Carrera GT is expected to attract significant attention when bidding begins in Monterey.
