LEGO Technic has pushed the boundaries of what is possible with brick-built engineering by unveiling the Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Megacar, a model that the company describes as the most mechanically sophisticated vehicle ever created in its Ultimate Car Concept Series. Developed in collaboration with Swedish hypercar manufacturer Koenigsegg, the new set combines advanced automotive engineering with LEGO's most complex building techniques to date.

The 4,104-piece model recreates the Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear in stunning 1:8 scale and becomes the sixth entry in LEGO Technic's prestigious Ultimate Car Concept Series. While previous models have featured impressive engineering details, this latest release introduces several innovations never before seen in a Technic Ultimate set, making it a landmark release for collectors, builders, and automotive enthusiasts alike.
One of the biggest highlights is the introduction of a fully functional Ghost Mode system. Inspired by the real Sadair’s Spear hypercar, the feature allows multiple components of the vehicle to move simultaneously through a single action. Activating Ghost Mode raises the rear section of the car, opens the signature dihedral synchro-helix doors, lifts the front hood, and folds out the mirrors in a carefully choreographed sequence. Recreating such a complex motion system entirely through LEGO mechanisms required years of design work and represents one of the most ambitious engineering challenges LEGO Technic designers have ever tackled.
Senior Model Designer Kasper Rene Hansen emphasized the scale of the achievement, calling it “the most advanced LEGO Technic build we’ve ever produced.” The Ghost Mode system alone demonstrates how far LEGO engineering has evolved, turning the model into far more than a static display piece.
The drivetrain is equally impressive. At the heart of the model sits a fully functional 9-speed sequential gearbox, another first for the series. Builders can shift through gears while observing a rotating indicator disc that displays the currently selected gear. This adds a realistic mechanical experience that mirrors the complexity found in actual high-performance vehicles.

LEGO also worked closely with Koenigsegg engineers to replicate the company's unique Triplex suspension system. Featured on both the front and rear axles, the suspension reflects one of the defining technologies used in Koenigsegg's real-world hypercars. Bringing such a specialized system into a LEGO model required extensive collaboration between the two companies to ensure accuracy and functionality.
Beyond the headline features, the set includes working steering, a removable roof, and a detailed V8 engine with moving pistons connected to the drivetrain. Measuring approximately 59 centimeters long and 28 centimeters wide, the finished model is one of the largest and most detailed Technic vehicles ever produced. Its combination of display appeal and mechanical functionality makes it equally attractive for collectors and dedicated builders.
To celebrate the launch, LEGO and Koenigsegg took the partnership a step further by creating a full-size drivable version of the Sadair’s Spear using LEGO elements. The life-size build was constructed from an astonishing 327,906 LEGO pieces and required more than 9,400 hours of development and assembly. Weighing around 1,800 kilograms, including roughly 400 kilograms of LEGO bricks, the vehicle retained key features from the production model, including the working Ghost Mode system and Koenigsegg's signature key mechanism.
The life-size replica made headlines at the Goodwood Festival of Speed when Koenigsegg test driver Markus Lundh drove it in reverse up the famous hill climb course. The LEGO vehicle reached an incredible speed of 111 km/h, more than doubling the previous record of 50 km/h for a drivable LEGO car. Lundh was also the driver who set the hill climb record in the real Sadair’s Spear in 2025, creating a unique connection between the LEGO creation and its high-performance inspiration.
The launch demonstrates how LEGO Technic has evolved beyond traditional building toys into a platform capable of recreating some of the world's most advanced automotive technologies. By combining authentic engineering concepts, intricate mechanical systems, and a record-breaking promotional stunt, the Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Megacar stands as one of the most ambitious projects LEGO has ever undertaken.

The LEGO Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Megacar (42232) will be available through LEGO Insiders Early Access beginning July 1, with a wider release scheduled for July 4. Customers who purchase the set during the launch period will also receive a limited-edition LEGO Technic Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear Steering Wheel as a promotional gift while supplies last.
