SEGA has officially announced Crazy Taxi World Tour, a reboot of its iconic arcade racing franchise, during the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase. The game marks the series’ return after more than two decades, with a planned release window set for 2027. It will launch across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo’s upcoming next-generation console.
The reboot aims to modernize the fast-paced, chaotic driving experience that made the original games a hit in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Players will once again step into the driver’s seat as Axel, one of the franchise’s most recognizable characters, as he races through busy city streets in high-energy missions. His mission revolves around recovering his stolen taxi while continuing to pick up and drop off passengers in increasingly unpredictable environments.
Gameplay footage shown in the reveal trailer highlights the return of the series’ signature arcade mechanics, combining time-based driving challenges with over-the-top urban navigation. SEGA is keeping the core formula intact while upgrading visuals, physics, and city scale to match modern hardware capabilities. The result is expected to deliver denser traffic, larger environments, and more dynamic street interactions than ever before.
The reveal also confirmed the return of The Offspring’s music, continuing the franchise’s tradition of punk-inspired soundtracks that defined its original identity. This nostalgic touch is designed to appeal to longtime fans while introducing a new generation of players to the series’ energetic style.
SEGA is positioning Crazy Taxi World Tour as part of a broader revival strategy focused on bringing back legacy franchises. By reimagining its classic titles for modern platforms, the company aims to reconnect with longtime fans while expanding its audience globally.
With its 2027 release target, Crazy Taxi World Tour represents one of SEGA’s most ambitious efforts to revive its arcade-era identity in a modern gaming landscape.
