Capcom has officially announced Resident Evil: Veronica, a full remake of the 2000 survival horror classic Resident Evil: Code Veronica, during Summer Game Fest.
The new title is scheduled for release in 2027 and will bring back one of the franchise’s most well-known early stories with a modern redesign.
The original game took place shortly after the events of Resident Evil 2 and ran alongside Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. It followed siblings Claire Redfield and Chris Redfield as they fought to survive a deadly viral outbreak.
In Resident Evil: Veronica, the story returns with updated visuals, gameplay, and structure while keeping the core narrative intact. Capcom says the goal is to reintroduce the experience to new players while also honoring longtime fans of the series.
The game begins on a remote prison island in the Southern Ocean before expanding into a research facility in Antarctica, where the Redfields uncover deeper layers of the outbreak and the horrors behind it.
Capcom has described the remake as a modern reimagining of a fan-favorite entry, aiming to preserve the original story while upgrading its survival horror mechanics for today’s hardware.
The announcement was made during Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, where it stood out among other major reveals.
Capcom’s previous mainline release was Resident Evil Requiem, which introduced FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and continued the franchise’s long-running connection to the Raccoon City incident.
With Resident Evil: Veronica, Capcom continues its trend of revisiting and modernizing classic entries in the series for a new generation of players.
