The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Champions will officially launch on iOS and Android devices on June 17, expanding the competitive battle-focused title beyond Nintendo Switch. The move allows trainers to take part in strategic Pokémon battles wherever they are, while maintaining the same experience available on console.
Originally released on Nintendo Switch in April, Pokémon Champions was created as a dedicated platform for competitive Pokémon battles. Unlike traditional Pokémon games that focus on exploration and story-driven adventures, the title is built around player-versus-player competition, ranked matches, and team-building strategy.
A key feature of the mobile version is full cross-platform support. Players who connect their Nintendo Account will be able to seamlessly share their progress, teams, rankings, and save data across both mobile devices and Nintendo Switch. This means trainers can continue their journey on any platform without losing progress.
The game also integrates directly with Pokémon HOME, allowing players to transfer eligible Pokémon from other games into Pokémon Champions. This feature gives longtime fans the opportunity to use Pokémon they have collected over the years and build competitive teams without starting from scratch.
To celebrate the mobile launch, The Pokémon Company is introducing a special in-game event. Players who log in between June 17 and September 1 will receive a free Raichu along with two brand-new Mega Stones. These items unlock unique Mega Evolution forms that offer different abilities and battle strategies.
Using Raichunite X grants Raichu the Electric Surge ability, while Raichunite Y activates No Guard and allows Thunder attacks to hit with perfect accuracy. The addition of two separate Mega Evolutions for the same Pokémon is expected to create new tactical options and influence the game's competitive scene.
The launch of Pokémon Champions also represents a major shift for Pokémon esports. The game is expected to become the primary platform for official Play! Pokémon tournaments, including future Pokémon World Championships. By separating competitive battles from the main role-playing games, developers can introduce regular balance updates, adjust rulesets more efficiently, and keep the competitive environment fresh.
Alongside ranked competition, the game includes casual battle modes and private lobbies, giving both serious competitors and casual players a variety of ways to enjoy the experience.
With mobile support, cross-platform progression, and a growing focus on esports, Pokémon Champions aims to become the central hub for competitive Pokémon battling across the franchise.
