Neymar has been named in Brazil’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking his return to the national team after a long period affected by injuries. The 34-year-old forward, who is Brazil’s all-time leading scorer, now has another chance to compete on football’s biggest stage as Brazil aims to win a record sixth World Cup title.

Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the squad during a major event held at Rio de Janeiro’s Museum of Tomorrow. The announcement attracted huge attention, with fans and media waiting to see whether Neymar would make the final list after struggling with fitness issues over the past two years.

Ancelotti explained that Neymar’s selection was based on his recent performances and physical improvement rather than his reputation alone. According to the coach, Neymar has been playing more consistently in recent months and has shown that he is ready to contribute to the team again. He also highlighted Neymar’s experience as an important factor for the squad.

Neymar has not played for Brazil since 2023 after suffering multiple injuries during his time at Saudi club Al Hilal. His return to Santos also brought criticism, with many questioning whether he could regain top form. However, the forward recently said he feels physically strong again and believes he has done enough to prove he deserves a place in the team.

Brazil’s attack remains packed with talent alongside Neymar. Players like Vinicius Junior, Raphinha, Matheus Cunha, Gabriel Martinelli, and young star Endrick are all included in the squad. Several notable names missed out due to injuries, including Rodrygo, Eder Militao, and Estevao. Chelsea forward Joao Pedro and midfielder Andrey Santos were also left out in surprise decisions.

Ancelotti admitted some players would naturally be disappointed with the final selection but thanked everyone who contributed during the qualification process. He stressed that building the best-balanced squad possible was the priority ahead of the tournament.

Brazil will begin their World Cup campaign against Morocco on June 13 in New Jersey before facing Haiti and Scotland in Group C. With Neymar back in the squad, fans will hope the experienced star can help lead the Seleção toward another historic World Cup victory.
