The Michael Jackson biopic is nearing a major box office milestone as it continues its strong global run in cinemas.
Titled Michael, the film has earned approximately $846.3 million worldwide more than a month after its release. That total puts it very close to breaking the record for the highest-grossing music biopic in history.
At the moment, the film is second only to Bohemian Rhapsody, the 2018 Queen biopic about Freddie Mercury, which made around $911 million globally. With less than $65 million separating the two, analysts say Michael is well positioned to challenge or even surpass the record if its momentum continues.
The film’s performance has remained steady, adding over $58 million worldwide in just the past week. This consistent growth suggests it is still drawing strong audience interest well after its debut.
A key reason for its success is its international appeal. Nearly 60 percent of the film’s total earnings have come from markets outside the United States and Canada, showing the continued global popularity of Michael Jackson’s music and legacy.
The project also marks another major success for producer Graham King, who previously brought Bohemian Rhapsody to the big screen. He has a track record in music biopics, including earlier work on Jersey Boys, further strengthening his influence in the genre.
With its current trajectory, Michael is expected to continue climbing the all-time rankings in the coming weeks.
