James Cameron is planning to change the way the Avatar movies are made as he prepares for Avatar 4 and Avatar 5.

According to reports, Cameron wants to complete the next two movies in “half the time for two-thirds of the cost” compared to previous Avatar productions. The director is looking for ways to make filming more efficient after spending many years and massive budgets creating the first three films in the franchise.

The decision comes after the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, which earned around $1.4 billion worldwide at the box office. While that number is extremely large, industry experts say the movie may have only made a small profit because of the franchise’s huge production, technology, and marketing expenses.

Cameron reportedly plans to spend about a year reorganizing and improving the production process before major filming begins on the remaining sequels. He wants to find faster and more cost-effective ways to continue the story without lowering the visual quality that the Avatar series is famous for.

The director has also revealed that parts of Avatar 4 were already filmed alongside earlier movies. This was done to avoid visible aging among younger cast members as the franchise continues over many years.

Although Cameron previously said he was prepared to end the story in another format if the franchise stopped succeeding financially, he now says moving forward with Avatar 4 is “likely,” though not completely guaranteed yet.

The Avatar franchise remains one of Hollywood’s biggest film series, known for its groundbreaking visual effects, motion-capture technology, and large-scale world-building. If Cameron succeeds in reducing production costs while maintaining the same level of quality, it could influence how future blockbuster franchises are made across the movie industry.
