HBO has officially confirmed a second season for its new Harry Potter TV adaptation, despite the first season not yet airing. The debut season, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is scheduled to premiere this Christmas.
The series follows a long-term plan to adapt all seven original books by J.K. Rowling into seven separate seasons over about ten years. Season 2 will cover Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and is expected to begin filming this fall.
Jon Brown, who worked on Season 1, has been promoted to co-showrunner for the second season alongside Francesca Gardiner. Gardiner said the addition will help manage overlapping production schedules and keep the series moving smoothly.
Brown expressed excitement about continuing the project, calling it a “remarkable journey” and noting his gratitude for the opportunity. Both showrunners have previously worked together on major productions, including Succession.
The first season follows Harry Potter as he discovers he is a wizard on his 11th birthday and enters Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he begins a journey that introduces him to both magic and danger.
The series is being produced by HBO in partnership with Warner Bros. Television and several executive producers, including J.K. Rowling and David Heyman.
