HBO has officially confirmed that Euphoria will come to an end with its third season, closing out one of the network’s most talked-about and influential modern dramas after a seven-year run.
The announcement was made by creator, writer, and director Sam Levinson during an appearance on the New York Times podcast Popcast. HBO later confirmed the statement, putting an official end to long-running speculation about whether the show would continue beyond Season 3.
The final episode of Season 3, titled “In God We Trust,” now stands as the series finale. That episode wraps up the story that began in 2019, bringing closure to characters and storylines that followed a group of high school students dealing with addiction, relationships, identity struggles, trauma, and the pressures of social media and fame.
Over its run, Euphoria became a major cultural phenomenon, known for its bold storytelling style, striking visuals, and intense performances. It also helped launch and elevate the careers of several major stars, including Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, and others.
Production on the series faced significant delays between seasons, especially the long gap between Seasons 2 and 3. During that time, many of the cast members became major film stars, making scheduling and production more complicated. Industry disruptions, including Hollywood strikes, also contributed to delays.
According to earlier comments from Levinson, he always approached each season as a self-contained chapter, often suggesting that he treated every installment as if it could be the final one. That approach ultimately aligned with the decision to end the series with Season 3.
The show also went through emotional challenges behind the scenes, including the death of actor Angus Cloud during the writing process for Season 3. His passing had a major impact on the production, with parts of the story adjusted as a tribute.
HBO executives had previously suggested that a fourth season was still possible, depending on Levinson’s direction. However, with the completion of Season 3, the creative team has now drawn a clear line under the story.
Across three seasons and multiple special episodes, Euphoria leaves behind a legacy as one of HBO’s most defining recent dramas, earning critical attention, awards recognition, and a strong global fan base.
