Square Enix has officially revealed Final Fantasy VII: Revelation as the final game in its remake trilogy, bringing the modern reimagining of the classic series to a close.

The game is scheduled for release in Spring 2027 and will launch across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Its release is planned to align with the 30th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy VII.

The announcement was made during Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, where early trailer footage was also shown. The presentation included a special appearance by voice actor Matthew Mercer, who reprises his role as Vincent Valentine from Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.

According to Square Enix, the story follows Cloud Strife and his allies as they face their final and most dangerous mission yet. The world is on the edge of destruction, with Sephiroth nearing godlike power and a massive threat in the form of Meteor looming over the planet.

The team travels aboard the airship Highwind as they race to stop total annihilation. Along the way, they are joined by returning characters like Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind, expanding both the story and gameplay experience.

Players will also explore a fully open world version of the planet, featuring new regions, upgraded combat mechanics, and an expanded job system designed to deepen strategy and character builds.

Game director Naoki Hamaguchi described the project as a conclusion centered on “resolve,” saying the story will focus on each character confronting their personal convictions as they move toward the final battle.

He added that the game will bring together all the emotional buildup from previous entries and deliver a final chapter designed to fully conclude the saga in a satisfying way.

Final Fantasy VII: Revelation marks the end of one of gaming’s most ambitious remake projects, promising a large-scale finale that ties together years of storytelling, character development, and world-building.
