The Fast & Furious franchise is expanding beyond movies with a brand-new live-action TV series now in development for Peacock.
The announcement was made by Vin Diesel during NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation in New York City. While speaking on stage, Diesel revealed that the Fast & Furious universe is officially heading into the streaming world.
During the presentation, Diesel suggested that Peacock was planning multiple Fast & Furious shows. However, reports later clarified that only one live-action series has currently been approved for development.
Diesel explained that the franchise’s team has wanted to create a TV series for years but waited until they felt the timing and leadership were right. He credited NBCUniversal executive Donna Langley for helping move the project forward while protecting the core identity of the franchise.
Although details about the story, characters, and cast have not yet been revealed, Diesel is expected to serve as an executive producer on the series.
The move follows Universal’s recent strategy of turning major movie franchises into streaming shows, including Ted, Pitch Perfect, and Chucky. The studio appears confident that the Fast & Furious brand can continue growing beyond the main film series.
With the eleventh movie expected to close out the main storyline, the upcoming Peacock series shows that the Fast & Furious universe is still far from finished
