Apple will pay $250 million to resolve a class action lawsuit accusing the company of overstating its artificial intelligence features before the release of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16.
The case focused on claims that Apple promoted its Apple Intelligence system, including a more advanced Siri, in a way that made it seem like these features would be available sooner than they actually were. Plaintiffs argued that Apple gave buyers the impression they were paying for fully functional AI tools that were still incomplete or delayed.
Because of this, some iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 customers say they made purchase decisions based on features that were not yet delivered. The lawsuit described this as misleading advertising tied to expected AI capabilities.
Apple did not admit any wrongdoing but chose to settle instead of continuing the legal battle. Under the agreement, eligible U.S. customers who bought the devices between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025 could receive up to $95 per phone.
Apple has been working on a more advanced Siri experience since introducing Apple Intelligence in 2024, aiming to make it function more like modern AI chat tools. Reports suggest the upgrade may involve Google’s Gemini technology or support multiple third-party AI models in future software updates.
The settlement comes just before Apple’s developer conference on June 8, where the company is expected to preview its next wave of AI-powered Siri features.
