Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that Anya Taylor-Joy will join the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, one of the most anticipated fantasy films currently in development.

The actress, known for standout performances in Furiosa, The Queen's Gambit, and Dune: Part Two, is set to play Seren, a highly skilled Sindar Elf who serves as a trusted operative under King Thranduil in the Woodland Realm.

According to production details, Seren is described as a deadly and intelligent warrior tasked with carrying out sensitive missions for the Elven kingdom. The character is expected to play a significant role in the film's story as the hunt for Gollum unfolds across Middle-earth.

The casting adds another major name to a project that is already packed with fan-favorite characters and high-profile actors. Andy Serkis is directing the film while also reprising his iconic role as Gollum, the character he famously portrayed throughout The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit Trilogy.

Several original cast members are also returning to Middle-earth. Ian McKellen is set to return as Gandalf the Grey, while Elijah Wood will once again portray Frodo Baggins. Their involvement has generated significant excitement among longtime fans of the franchise.

Meanwhile, Lee Pace is returning as King Thranduil, the Elven ruler first introduced in The Hobbit films. His character will reportedly have a larger presence in the story, particularly through his connection to Seren and the Woodland Realm.

The film is also introducing several new characters to expand the world of Middle-earth. Academy Award-winning actress Kate Winslet has joined the cast as Marigol, the leader of a Stoor community. The Stoors are one of the ancient Hobbit-like peoples whose history stretches back centuries before the events of the original trilogy.

In addition, Jamie Dornan has been cast as Strider, a younger version of the ranger who would later become Aragorn. The role was famously played by Viggo Mortensen in the original films. Rising star Leo Woodall has also joined the ensemble as a new character named Halvard.

Production on the film is currently underway in New Zealand, the same location that served as the backdrop for Peter Jackson's original Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies. The return to New Zealand is expected to help recreate the visual style and atmosphere that made the franchise famous worldwide.

The story of The Hunt for Gollum is expected to explore a key period in Middle-earth history that takes place before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring. The film will focus on the search for Gollum after he escaped Mordor, a mission that became crucial to understanding the fate of the One Ring and the growing threat of Sauron.

With a mix of returning legends, new characters, and one of Hollywood's most recognizable young stars joining the cast, the film is shaping up to be one of the biggest fantasy releases of the decade.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is scheduled to arrive in theaters worldwide on December 17, 2027.
