Meta has announced a major update to Threads Live Chats, adding several new features while expanding access to more users as the platform continues to strengthen its real-time conversation experience.

The latest update introduces translation support, new moderation tools, and co-hosting features, making Live Chats more interactive and easier to manage for both creators and participants.

One of the biggest additions is automatic translation, allowing users from different countries to understand conversations more easily. This makes Live Chats accessible to a much wider global audience, regardless of the language being spoken.

Meta is also expanding the ability to start Live Chats beyond its initial group of creators. The feature is now available to all Community Champions, users who are well-known within their communities, regularly create content, and consistently encourage discussions on the platform.

To help hosts manage larger conversations, Threads now allows them to invite up to three co-hosts into a Live Chat. Co-hosts can assist with moderating discussions, engaging with participants, or simply acting as guest speakers during conversations.

The platform has also introduced stronger moderation controls. Hosts can now delete messages for everyone in the chat, making it easier to remove spam, inappropriate content, or off-topic discussions. In addition, Threads is testing a feature that makes messages posted by the host stand out visually so participants can identify important updates more easily.

When Threads first launched, many users felt it lacked essential tools needed for real-time conversations. Compared to X, formerly Twitter, the platform initially did not offer features like advanced search, hashtags, or a chronological feed.

Since then, Meta has steadily introduced those capabilities while continuing to develop unique features that help distinguish Threads from its competitors. Live Chats have become one of those standout features, offering a way for communities to interact in real time, something X currently does not provide in the same format.

According to Threads, the feature has quickly gained popularity.

The company says hundreds of Live Chats are now hosted almost every day, attracting thousands of participants. Many of the new features announced this week were developed in response to feedback and requests from creators using the platform.

Live Chats allow users to share text messages, photos, videos, links, and emoji reactions during conversations.

Up to 150 participants can actively send messages in a chat at the same time. Once that limit is reached, additional users can still join as spectators, where they can watch the conversation, react to messages, and participate in polls without sending messages themselves.

Meta also revealed that more improvements are on the way.

The company confirmed that desktop support for Live Chats will be launching soon, allowing users to participate from their computers. It is also working on pinned messages, another highly requested feature that will let hosts highlight important announcements or discussion topics during a conversation.

The updates come as Threads continues to experience rapid growth.

Earlier this month, Meta announced that the platform had reached 500 million monthly active users, nearly three years after launching as a competitor to X.

Over the past year, Threads has steadily expanded its feature set with additions such as direct messaging (DMs), ghost posts, desktop messaging, and now enhanced Live Chats.

With these latest improvements, Meta is continuing its effort to make Threads a stronger destination for real-time conversations, creator engagement, and community building.
