Spotify Adds AI Tools That Let Users Create and Ask Questions About Podcasts

Spotify is expanding its podcast experience by adding new AI-powered features that go beyond simply listening to shows created by others.

The company wants to turn Spotify into a platform where users can also generate their own podcasts based on personal interests, prompts, and daily needs. Instead of only consuming content, users will soon be able to create custom audio shows tailored to their schedules and topics.

Spotify has already released a developer tool on GitHub that allows users to generate podcasts using AI systems like Claude Code and Codex. The company says that in the near future, this feature will be fully built into the Spotify app, making it easier for anyone to create a podcast without technical skills.

Users will be able to request personalized audio shows such as daily news updates, local event summaries, or quick explanations of complex topics like economics or science. For example, someone could ask for “daily city updates and concerts from favorite artists” and receive a custom podcast automatically generated for them.

The platform will also allow users to attach materials like links, PDFs, and text documents, which the AI can use to build more detailed and accurate podcast episodes. Users will also be able to choose different AI-generated voices for narration, giving each podcast a more personalized feel.

Spotify is also developing a desktop tool called “Studio by Spotify Labs,” which can connect to a user’s email and calendar. This would allow the system to generate automatic briefings based on scheduled events, reminders, and personal information.

In addition to podcast creation, Spotify is rolling out an AI-powered Q&A feature for Premium users in the United States, Sweden, and Ireland. This tool allows listeners to ask questions about what they are hearing in real time.

For example, if a listener does not understand a concept mentioned in a podcast, they can ask the app for clarification. Users can also request recommendations for other podcasts based on specific interests or topics.

This Q&A feature builds on Spotify’s earlier experiment with AI-generated podcast playlists, which launched earlier in the year.

The company is also continuing to push video podcasts, which have seen strong growth. Spotify reported that video podcast consumption has increased by about 50 percent year over year, showing that users are engaging more deeply with visual podcast content.

With these updates, Spotify is aiming to transform its platform into a more interactive audio experience where users can not only listen but also ask questions, explore topics, and generate entirely new content.

At the same time, Spotify is introducing new monetization tools for creators. Podcast makers will soon be able to manage brand sponsorships more easily and offer paid subscriptions for exclusive episodes and content.

These changes bring Spotify closer to social platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat, which already allow creators to earn money through subscriptions and exclusive content features.
