Prime Video and Sony Pictures Television are reportedly moving closer to bringing one of Spider-Man’s most complicated comic book storylines to live-action television. According to Deadline, the two companies are nearing a series order for a new show based on Marvel Comics’ Clone Saga, with the story expected to focus on Spider-Man clones Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker.

‍

The reported project would become another television entry connected to Sony’s wider Universe of Marvel characters. While the studio has not publicly revealed all of the details surrounding the series, the Clone Saga provides the creative foundation for a story built around identity, family, betrayal and the question of what makes someone the real Spider-Man.

‍

Ben Reilly is one of the most recognizable characters to emerge from the original Clone Saga. In the comics, he is a clone of Peter Parker who eventually adopts the identity of the Scarlet Spider before taking on the Spider-Man mantle himself. His existence creates a complicated relationship with Peter because both characters share the same genetic origin.

‍

Kaine Parker is another clone of Peter Parker, but his history and relationship with the other characters are very different from Ben’s. Kaine was originally created as a darker and more unstable version of the clone, eventually developing into a character with his own identity and motivations.

‍

The television project is being written by Kelvin Yu, the creator of American Born Chinese. Yu is expected to serve as one of the key creative figures behind the adaptation, with the series being developed under the broader relationship between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television.

‍

Amy Pascal, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are also expected to be involved as executive producers alongside Yu. The trio has extensive experience with Sony’s Spider-Man properties, having played major creative roles in the animated Spider-Verse films and other projects connected to the character.

‍

The reported series follows Sony’s continued effort to expand Spider-Man-related stories through television. The studio has already explored different corners of the Marvel universe through projects that exist outside the main Spider-Man film storyline, giving it additional opportunities to introduce characters who may not fit naturally into the theatrical movies.

‍

The Clone Saga itself is one of the most well-known and controversial storylines in Spider-Man comic history. The original storyline became particularly prominent during the 1990s and introduced a complicated series of revelations surrounding Peter Parker, his clones and the question of who was the original.

‍

However, the television adaptation is not expected to simply reproduce the comic storyline word for word. Sources cited in the report indicate that the screen version could make significant changes to the original material, meaning viewers could see a different interpretation of Ben and Kaine's origins, relationships and motivations.

‍

That approach could give the writers more freedom to create a story that works for modern television audiences without having to recreate the sprawling structure of the original comic storyline. The Clone Saga covered a large number of issues and characters, so adapting it for a series would likely require substantial changes to its timeline and narrative.

‍

The project is also reportedly being developed after Prime Video canceled Spider-Noir following its first season. That series was another live-action project connected to Sony’s Spider-Man universe and starred Nicolas Cage as an alternate version of the Spider-Man character in a noir-inspired setting.

‍

The reported Clone Saga series would therefore represent a new direction for Sony and Amazon's live-action Marvel television plans. Instead of focusing on an established character from an alternate reality, the new show could explore characters whose identities are directly connected to Peter Parker and the central mythology of Spider-Man.

‍

One of the biggest unanswered questions is how closely the series would connect to existing Spider-Man films and television projects. Sony has not revealed whether the show would directly reference Tom Holland’s version of Peter Parker or operate within a separate continuity.

‍

The reported distribution strategy also sets the project apart from a traditional Prime Video original. Under the current plan, the series is expected to make its initial linear television debut on MGM+, before eventually becoming available to stream on Prime Video.

‍

That release approach would allow the project to have a traditional television window while still reaching Prime Video's global streaming audience afterward. The exact timing of the release has not yet been announced.

‍

Casting details beyond the characters of Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker have also not been revealed. It is currently unclear who could play the two Spider-Man clones or whether any actors from Sony's existing Marvel projects could appear in the series.

‍

There is also no confirmation yet regarding Peter Parker's role in the story. Because Ben and Kaine are both connected to Peter's DNA and history, the original Spider-Man's presence could have an important impact on the adaptation, although the series may choose to tell the story from a different perspective.

‍

For Sony, the project would add another layer to a Spider-Man universe that has increasingly expanded beyond Peter Parker himself. Characters such as Venom, Morbius, Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter and the Spider-Verse versions of the character have already demonstrated how many different directions the property can take.

‍

The reported series could give Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker their first major live-action treatment, potentially turning characters that are familiar to longtime comic readers into central figures for a new television audience.

‍

For now, the project remains in development, and several major details, including casting, plot specifics, production dates and an official premiere date, have yet to be announced. A formal series order would represent the next major step toward bringing the project to screens.

‍

If the reported plans move forward, Prime Video and Sony would be taking one of Spider-Man's most complicated comic stories and reshaping it for a modern live-action series, with Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker at the center of the story.
