The Fast & Furious franchise is officially expanding into television, with Peacock giving a series order to a new live-action scripted show based in the blockbuster action universe. The project will bring the franchise's characters, high-speed action and family-driven storytelling to an episodic format for the first time as a major Peacock original, with the series currently targeting a 2028 premiere.

‍

The television project is being developed as an extension of the long-running film franchise, which has grown from a street-racing story into a global action series spanning multiple countries, elaborate heists, espionage missions and increasingly ambitious stunts. Moving the property to television gives the studio another way to explore its world beyond the two-hour-plus format of the theatrical films.

‍

Vin Diesel, one of the central figures in the franchise, will serve as an executive producer through his One Race production company. He will be joined by Sam Vincent, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan, a longtime writer and creative contributor to the Fast & Furious films.

‍

Mike Daniels, known for his work on Sons of Anarchy, and Wolfe Coleman, who has worked on 9-1-1: Lone Star, will serve as co-showrunners. The pair will also write the pilot and executive produce the series, giving them responsibility for establishing the show's tone, characters and broader story direction.

‍

The project is being produced by Universal Television, bringing together the television division and the studio behind the Fast & Furious movie franchise. Peacock will serve as the show's streaming home when it eventually launches.

‍

The planned television series comes as Universal continues to build toward the next major chapter of the franchise on the big screen. The upcoming movie, Fast Forever, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 17, 2028, putting the television project on a similar timeline.

‍

The connection between the two projects could give the franchise a particularly busy year in 2028. Fast Forever will continue the theatrical storyline, while the Peacock series will provide a separate episodic format through which the wider Fast & Furious universe can be explored.

‍

The television project was previously teased by Diesel during NBCUniversal's upfront presentation, where he discussed plans to expand the franchise beyond its established film format. The new series order now represents a more concrete step toward turning that idea into an actual television production.

‍

Details about the show's storyline and characters remain limited. Peacock has not yet revealed whether the series will directly follow the established film characters, introduce an entirely new group of characters, or use a combination of familiar faces and new additions.

‍

That leaves considerable room for the television series to develop its own identity while remaining connected to the larger Fast & Furious universe. A series format could allow the franchise to spend more time developing individual characters, relationships and locations than would normally be possible in a single feature film.

‍

The move to television also reflects the growing importance of established film franchises to streaming platforms. Rather than relying exclusively on theatrical releases, major entertainment properties are increasingly being expanded through television series and streaming projects that can keep audiences connected to a franchise between major movie releases.

‍

Fast & Furious is particularly suited to that approach because its universe has expanded dramatically since the first movie was released in 2001. What began as a story centered on underground street racing has developed into a global franchise with a large ensemble cast and an extensive mythology built across multiple films.

‍

The series also arrives at a significant point in the franchise's history. The movies have continued to attract audiences worldwide, but the television project gives Universal an opportunity to explore new storytelling possibilities without being limited to the structure of a theatrical sequel.

‍

For Peacock, the series could also become a major addition to its original programming lineup by bringing one of Universal's best-known entertainment properties directly to the streaming platform.

‍

However, the studio has not yet announced a specific premiere date, casting lineup, episode count or production start date. Those details are expected to become clearer as development progresses toward the targeted 2028 launch.

‍

For now, the confirmed plan is for the Fast & Furious universe to expand into live-action scripted television through Peacock, with Vin Diesel and several longtime franchise producers involved behind the scenes.

‍

The Peacock series is targeted to premiere in 2028, the same year Fast Forever is scheduled to bring the franchise back to movie theaters on March 17. Together, the two projects will mark another major expansion of the Fast & Furious universe.
