Insomniac Games has revealed new gameplay for Marvel’s Wolverine during PlayStation’s State of Play, confirming a release date of September 15 on PS5. The game is a single-player action title built around an original story starring Logan (Wolverine), with combat designed to feel fast, violent, and highly aggressive.

At the center of the gameplay is the Rage system, which builds as players attack, block, and defeat enemies. As the meter fills, Wolverine becomes stronger and unlocks enhanced abilities, including his signature Healing Factor, which allows him to quickly recover from heavy damage and stay in combat longer instead of retreating.

When Rage reaches its highest level, Wolverine enters a powerful state called Rage Tier 3. In this mode, the screen shifts into a stylized black-and-white look inspired by Marvel comics, signaling that Logan has fully lost control and is fighting at maximum brutality.

Combat also includes special moves known as Techniques, such as the Tornado Spin and Bull Rush. These attacks expand Wolverine’s fighting style beyond basic claw strikes, allowing for both fast combos and explosive close-range damage. He can also ambush enemies from above, making stealth and surprise attacks part of his combat options.

A key survival mechanic called Last Stand activates when Wolverine’s health becomes critical. Instead of a game over, his Healing Factor automatically kicks in, giving players a chance to recover and continue fighting through intense battles.

Jean Grey plays an important supporting role during combat. As an AI companion, she uses her telekinetic powers to create openings for powerful Critical Strike finishing moves, which can be triggered during high-intensity fights. This system adds teamwork-style moments without requiring full co-op gameplay.

Enemies in the game include the Reavers, a heavily armed cybernetic militia working for industrialist Bolivar Trask. Their advanced technology is specifically designed to counter mutants like Wolverine, making every encounter more dangerous and strategic.

The gameplay also features large-scale action sequences, including a motorcycle highway chase where Wolverine fights across moving vehicles, destroys enemy convoys, and takes on heavily armored enemies mid-combat.

The story follows Logan returning to Team X after a long absence, as he is pulled back into conflict when mutants are captured by the Reavers. Jean Grey leads the captured group and becomes a key ally in his mission. The narrative focuses on a world where mutants are hunted in secrecy, keeping the stakes grounded and easy to follow without requiring deep Marvel knowledge.

A brief teaser at the end of the trailer also hints at the appearance of Sabretooth, setting up future conflict in the story.
