A rare piece of Kobe Bryant’s Los Angeles Lakers career is returning to the public market, with a game-worn No. 8 jersey featuring an NBA Finals patch now being offered through The Realest.
The jersey is being presented as the only known No. 8 Bryant jersey with an NBA Finals patch to have reached the market, making it an especially significant item for collectors of the late basketball star’s memorabilia.

The jersey comes from the final stretch of Bryant’s No. 8 era with the Lakers, before he eventually switched to No. 24. It carries a direct connection to the 2003-04 season, when Los Angeles reached the NBA Finals.
According to The Realest, Bryant wore this particular jersey in 17 different games during his Lakers career. Its last documented appearance came on May 31, 2004.
That date holds particular significance because it came as the Lakers advanced to the NBA Finals following the Western Conference Finals. Los Angeles had defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves in the series, securing its place in the championship round.
The NBA Finals patch on the jersey adds another layer of historical importance. It connects the physical item to a season in which Bryant and the Lakers competed on the league’s biggest stage.
Bryant’s No. 8 period is also remembered as the beginning of what would become one of the most influential careers in modern basketball. He wore No. 8 from his NBA debut in 1996 through the 2005-06 season before changing to No. 24.

Scott Keeney, founder and CEO of The Realest, highlighted the difficulty of finding authentic game-worn jerseys from this part of Bryant’s career.
“Kobe Bryant is one of the most iconic athletes of all time, and the opportunity to own a documented game worn No. 8 jersey from his career is exceptionally rare, with only three having previously sold publicly at this level of provenance,” Scott Keeney, founder and CEO of The Realest, said in a statement shared with Complex. “What makes this jersey even more remarkable is the winning history it carries during the birth of the Mamba era.”
The jersey has also been through an important part of the collecting world before returning to auction. The Los Angeles Lakers previously offered the piece during Kobe Bryant Jersey Retirement Night in 2017.
That event marked a major moment in Bryant’s legacy, as the Lakers retired both of his jersey numbers, No. 8 and No. 24, at Staples Center in December 2017.
The current auction represents the jersey’s first return to the market in nearly a decade, giving collectors another opportunity to acquire a piece that has already been part of a major Kobe Bryant memorabilia event.
The Realest has also authenticated the jersey through its Certified program. The process includes a physical examination of the item as well as independent photographic matching to establish its connection to Bryant’s on-court use.
Game-worn memorabilia can be particularly valuable when its history can be traced through photographs, video and other documentation. In this case, the jersey’s provenance, game use and Finals connection all contribute to its significance.
The jersey also represents a specific chapter of Bryant’s career that is increasingly difficult for collectors to access. His No. 8 years came before the second half of his career, when he became known for wearing No. 24.

The 2003-04 season was also one of the most closely followed periods of Bryant’s career. The Lakers had assembled a star-heavy roster and entered the season with championship expectations before ultimately reaching the Finals.
Although the team fell short of the championship that year, the season remains an important part of Bryant’s early Lakers legacy and the development of the player who would later become known globally as the “Black Mamba.”
Keeney also emphasized the combination of rarity and documented history that separates this jersey from more common basketball collectibles.
“The combination of its rarity, provenance, and significance to Kobe’s No. 8 era makes this an extraordinary piece of basketball history, and we’re excited to now offer fans and collectors the opportunity to own it,” Keeney added.

Bryant died in a helicopter crash in January 2020 at the age of 41, but interest in memorabilia connected to his career has remained strong. Items with direct links to important moments in his playing history continue to attract attention from collectors.
This particular jersey brings together several important elements of that history, including Bryant’s No. 8 era, his game-worn provenance, the 2003-04 Lakers season and an NBA Finals patch.
With its previous appearance during the Lakers’ 2017 jersey retirement celebration and its documented use across 17 games, the jersey enters the market with a history that extends well beyond its time on the basketball court.
The auction gives fans and collectors an opportunity to acquire one of the rarest documented Kobe Bryant No. 8 jerseys to become publicly available, nearly two decades after its final recorded appearance on an NBA court.
