Instagram has rolled out a new update that allows users to change the order of posts on their profile grid for the first time. The feature, called Grid Reordering, officially launched on June 8 and is already being described as one of the platform’s biggest profile changes in years.

Before this update, users were locked into a fixed grid layout unless they deleted posts, archived them, or used pinned posts to highlight certain content. Now, that structure is gone. Users can fully reorganize how their profile looks, giving them more control over how their page is presented to visitors.
To use the feature, users simply press and hold any post on their profile grid. A menu will appear that allows them to move posts around and place them in any order they choose. This makes it possible to redesign a profile visually, whether for personal expression, branding, or simply cleaning up an old layout.
One of the most notable aspects of this update is that it works alongside pinned posts. Instagram confirmed that pinned posts and reels will stay locked at the top of the profile and will not be affected by any rearranging done in the rest of the grid. This means users can still highlight key content while freely customizing everything underneath.
The update also opens the door for creative profile storytelling. Older posts can now be placed next to newer content, allowing users to reshape their timeline visually rather than strictly chronologically. For creators, influencers, and businesses, this offers a new way to design a first impression.
Instagram says the feature is now rolling out globally, making it available to all users starting June 8.
