Insta360 has officially launched the Luna Ultra, a new flagship handheld gimbal camera designed for creators who want cinema-level quality in a portable device. First previewed at NAB 2026, the camera is positioned as a major step forward in mobile filmmaking, combining high-resolution imaging, advanced stabilization, and intelligent AI features in one compact system.

At the center of the device is a dual-lens setup developed in collaboration with Leica. The main camera uses a 1-inch 8K sensor paired with a Leica Summicron lens and an F1.8 aperture, capable of capturing wide dynamic range and detailed low-light footage. Alongside it is a secondary 1/1.3-inch sensor with a telephoto lens that supports 6x lossless zoom and up to 12x hybrid zoom, giving creators flexibility to shoot everything from wide cinematic scenes to distant action shots.

This dual-system approach allows users to switch between multiple focal lengths without losing image quality. The camera also supports professional-grade video formats, including 8K Dolby Vision and 10-bit I-Log color profiles, making it suitable for post-production workflows in software like DaVinci Resolve.

Powering the Luna Ultra is a Triple AI Chip system that combines two imaging processors with a 4nm main chip. This setup enables advanced features like 4K 60fps PureVideo mode, which improves clarity in low-light environments, and Deep Track 5.0, an upgraded AI tracking system that keeps subjects in focus even during fast movement or zoom transitions. It also supports group framing, making it easier for solo creators to shoot dynamic scenes without assistance.

The physical design of the camera introduces a detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen, one of its most unique features. This screen can be removed from the gimbal and used as a wireless remote control, allowing users to monitor and control recordings from up to 65 feet away. This makes it easier to film complex shots where direct access to the camera is not possible.

Insta360 has also focused on usability and workflow efficiency. The camera includes 47GB of built-in storage, allowing users to start recording immediately without needing an external memory card. A 1550mAh battery provides up to four hours of continuous shooting and supports fast charging, reaching 80 percent in just over 20 minutes.

Audio support is also built into the system. The Luna Ultra connects directly with Insta360’s wireless microphone ecosystem, allowing up to two Mic Pro transmitters to be paired without external receivers. This setup enables clean, professional dual-person audio recording while keeping the rig lightweight and minimal.

Overall, the Luna Ultra is designed as a complete content creation tool, combining high-end optics, AI-powered tracking, and professional video capabilities into a single handheld system aimed at filmmakers, vloggers, and mobile creators who want advanced performance without traditional bulky equipment.
