Dame Dash has weighed in on a growing rap conversation involving Drake, Jay-Z, and Kendrick Lamar, saying he believes Drake has a better chance against Jay-Z than against Kendrick.
His comments come after Jay-Z’s recent freestyle at the Roots Picnic, which many listeners interpreted as containing subtle references aimed at Drake and others in the hip-hop industry. Around the same time, Drake also appeared to respond indirectly on his recent music releases, adding more attention to the ongoing discussion.
Speaking in an interview with The Art of Dialogue, Dame Dash criticized Jay-Z’s freestyle and questioned the way he directed his lyrical shots.
“Then, he’s getting at Drake,” Dame said in the new interview, seen below. “And I don't think Drake can beat Kendrick [Lamar], but I know Drake can beat Jay. I know that for a fact. And then I was like, damn, this n***a ain’t say nothing about 50 [Cent]? I guess he don’t want no smoke with 50 but 50 been kinda quiet lately too, for some reason.”
Dame also pointed out what he saw as inconsistencies in who was mentioned and who was left out of the lyrical targets, suggesting that some major rap names were noticeably absent from the exchange.
Jay-Z’s freestyle has since been widely discussed across hip-hop media, with fans debating who the bars were aimed at and how different artists would respond if the situation escalated into a full lyrical battle.
Meanwhile, Jay-Z is preparing for a series of special performances celebrating his classic albums Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint, set to take place at Yankee Stadium in July, along with an additional “Extra Innings” show scheduled afterward.
