Cash App is rolling out a new physical payment gadget that lets users make contactless payments using a small “magic wand” device instead of pulling out a phone or card. The $25 accessory is part of a new line of NFC-enabled tools designed to make payments more flexible and, in some cases, more playful.

The wand connects directly to a user’s Cash App Card and works anywhere that supports Visa tap-to-pay transactions. Once linked through the app, it can be used immediately without needing a minimum account balance.

The device comes with a small keychain attachment, making it easy to carry on bags, clothing, or keys. It is designed for situations where using a phone might be inconvenient, such as concerts, festivals, or crowded events.

Beyond convenience, Cash App is also leaning into the trend’s novelty appeal. The idea of tapping a wand to pay adds a fun, social twist to everyday transactions, which may resonate especially with younger users.

Each payment made with the wand triggers instant notifications in the app, and users can lock or unlock the device at any time for security. If it is lost, it can be quickly deactivated through the app to prevent unauthorized use.

The company says it is also actively monitoring fraud risks tied to the new hardware to ensure secure transactions. According to Block’s hardware lead Thomas Templeton, the goal is to make payments more visible and interactive rather than hidden inside wallets or apps.

Cash App also plans to expand its “Tags” hardware lineup in the future, introducing new designs, limited-edition versions, and additional form factors over time.

The launch is part of Cash App’s broader strategy to attract younger users, especially Gen Z. The company has already introduced teen accounts and a parent-controlled debit card for younger children as it continues to build a family-focused financial ecosystem.
