BMW M has officially introduced the M Concept Neue Klasse, a forward-looking prototype that previews the brand’s first fully electric high-performance sedan. The reveal took place at the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans, signaling BMW’s intention to bring its racing DNA into the electric era with a production model expected in 2027.

The concept is designed as a near-production study for the upcoming i3-based performance sedan. It features a strong, aggressive stance with widened proportions, boxy flared wheel arches, and a lowered, track-focused body. At the front, the design includes a shark-like nose profile, V-shaped hood detailing, large air intakes, and motorsport-inspired lighting elements that give it a distinctive racing identity.

Under the surface, the M Concept Neue Klasse is powered by a quad-motor electric system, with one motor assigned to each wheel. This setup allows extremely precise control over traction, acceleration, and braking. BMW pairs this with its new 800-volt architecture, designed to support faster energy delivery, improved efficiency, and higher sustained performance on both road and track.

A key innovation in the vehicle is BMW’s “Heart of Joy” central computing system. This advanced control unit processes data from steering, braking, and power systems in real time, managing torque distribution across all four wheels. BMW claims this system reacts up to ten times faster than previous-generation performance controllers, allowing sharper handling and more stable high-speed cornering.

The battery system is built around next-generation cylindrical cells with a capacity exceeding 100 kWh, designed to support both high output and endurance. While electric performance cars often struggle with weight, BMW has focused heavily on balancing power with agility, using software-driven torque vectoring to make the vehicle feel lighter and more responsive during aggressive driving.

Inside, the concept continues its track-focused approach. The cabin includes deep bucket racing seats, multi-point harnesses, and simplified performance controls placed within easy reach of the driver. The design removes unnecessary luxury elements in favor of a more functional cockpit built for performance driving scenarios.

BMW M also highlighted how electric performance cars face a major challenge: weight management. Large EV battery packs can significantly increase mass, which affects cornering and braking. To counter this, the Neue Klasse system relies on advanced suspension tuning and real-time electronic adjustments that continuously stabilize the car under pressure.

The concept also reflects BMW’s broader push toward blending aerodynamics with electrification. Every design element, from the sculpted bodywork to the airflow channels, is engineered to reduce drag while increasing downforce. This balance is critical for maintaining stability at high speeds, especially in a vehicle expected to perform near supercar levels.

Although still a concept, the M Concept Neue Klasse serves as a clear preview of BMW M’s electric future, where performance will be defined not just by raw horsepower, but by intelligent systems that control every aspect of driving dynamics in real time.
