50 Cent has once again made headlines with fresh comments about Sean "Diddy" Combs, continuing a public feud that has stretched on for years. Speaking in a new interview with GQ, the rapper reflected on his long-held views about the Bad Boy Records founder while discussing his Emmy-nominated Netflix documentary, Sean Combs: The Reckoning.
The documentary, which premiered on Netflix last December and was executive produced by 50 Cent through his G-Unit Film & Television company, explores the legal controversies surrounding Combs. The project has since received three nominations at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, bringing renewed attention to both the documentary and 50 Cent's outspoken criticism of the music executive.
During the interview, 50 Cent said he had always felt uncomfortable around Combs, claiming that his concerns dated back many years before the recent legal cases became public.
“It's one of those things that whether you noticed or not, nobody said anything about any of this for all of these [years],” Fif told GQ. “These parties, these things that were going on. The entire time. And it's like, I would always say … I’m not with that. I don't like the boy’s vibes. I tell you he's a fruit pop, ‘cause it was two things that felt like it was uncomfortable for me to be around him. … He just was a little more touchy.”
The rapper continued by saying that, in his opinion, there were signs that many people in the music industry chose to ignore because of Combs' influence and success.
“He wasn't in the closet,” Fif said. “He was, like, in the hallway where you could see that there's something going on, but you just don't know what exactly to say. And in hip-hop, it follows aspiration. As long as you're financially in a spot where they aspire to you, they won't be sure if they don't like what your choices are. They'll look and go, ‘Well, maybe.’ You know? So they didn't say anything about it.”
While discussing the documentary, 50 Cent also praised director Alexandria Stapleton, crediting her work on the project as it continues to receive industry recognition.
Sean Combs: The Reckoning has earned Emmy nominations in three major categories: Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series, Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program, and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program. If the series wins Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series, 50 Cent will receive an Emmy as one of its executive producers.
The latest interview comes as Combs remains in prison following his convictions on Mann Act violations. Throughout the past year, 50 Cent has repeatedly commented on the legal proceedings through interviews and social media, making Combs one of his most frequent targets.
Neither Combs nor his representatives have publicly responded to 50 Cent's latest remarks. Meanwhile, Sean Combs: The Reckoning continues to attract attention ahead of the Emmy Awards, where it will compete against other documentary productions for television's highest honors.
